Breathing is the key to self control.
“Breath is the link between the body and mind. If the mind is a kite the breath is the thread. The longer the thread, the higher the kite can go.” – Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
And self control is the key to conquering whatever the fuck you want in this world. If you’re not focusing on your breathe, you don’t have any focus. Controlling your mind is essential to getting want you want from yourself. The world is working actively to poison your great mind, by numbing it, taking your attention away from what matters, to steal time from your hourglass and fill their bank accounts. Don’t be one of these people. There isn’t enough great people at the moment, breathing can make you one of them.
The process.
When you first begin paying attention to your breathing, it will most likely terrify you. This is good. Walk into that fear. Fear is beautiful and uncut. The truth can is often paralyzing. The reason why it’s so frightening is that it cuts away all the noise in the world and all the distractions. Distractions keep you safe, keep you lying to yourself, and numb you from what is real. Another example is the weak man who works 40 hours a week, then goes home to “recharge” by slamming beers. He’s running from his problems. He’s a coward in constant retreat. By making this simple adjustment, giving thought to your breathe you can change everything. Quit being a coward, it’s easier than you think.
Think of all the times you’ve been scared. Have you ever been in a fight? What do you do with your breath? You probably don’t remember, but I know what you did. You took incredibly shallow, panicked weak breathes. Not only making you exhaust faster, also raising your heartrate, bloodpressure, and overall stress. What we’re essentially doing is a constant controlled meditation here.
Like the previous post on how to get shredded with a jump rope, this will take time, energy and skill. You’ll be frustrated at first, frustration is good for you. Struggle is art.
Start right when you wake up. No later than 5am, as victor says to be a spartan. My process is roll out of bed, use the Wim hoff Method. This is a rapid way to get into state(more below), and then I’ll usually use combat breathing throughout the day.
Combat breathing

Breathe in through your nose for 4 seconds.
Hold the inhale for 4 seconds.
exhale for 4 seconds. Depending on your size you may sputter at the end. This is good.
Hold the exhale for 4 seconds.
A count is not 1234.
1…. 2…. 3…. 4….
You’re brain will most likely begin to panic, and you’ll rush the numbers. This is a trick. You can’t suffocate from a breathing method, it’s impossible. Police officer Tricia Kennedy used this exact method to save her life when she was shot in the head. Combat breathing is incredibly popular in the military and policing field because of it’s ability to calm you. While in combat or dealing with an active shooter, the worst thing you can do is panic. Combat breathing will prevent this. I use this method before fights, shooting, BJJ tournaments, and other manly shit you should be doing as well.
Win Hoff Method
Breathe in more then you exhale.
Short, exhales, deep intakes.
Think of blowing up a balloon that can’t be filled. Like your lungs can’t get enough oxygen.
Every morning, this is my method. I’ll do this for ten minutes, a rest when I need to, while I’ll visualize what I want to accomplish that day. I close my eyes, and see it. I love lofty goals, I also love actionable ones. This is the time for action. Be careful, as Wim himself has used this on his students to place them into a trance like state. Mike Cernovich has an excellent write up of the method. See how Wim does it straight form the source, Wim’s site. I haven’t done the online course yet, but I will soon.
Andreian Limit Breathing
Inhale everything you can.
Hold for 20 seconds.
Exhale everything you can.
Hold for 10 seconds.
I’ll use this method in a rush, I do not recommend this being your mainstay. It’s intensity is not good for a beginner either. An opportunity to use this method would be during a panic attack, a test, or a fight. This is one of my creations that is quite effective once you’ve had the proper time with combat breathing.
Andreian Leaf breathing.
Key breathing takeaways
- No shallow breathes.
- Always have at least one pattern running.
- If you lose your breathe, you lose your mind.
Being able to breathe effectively will give you near godlike mental strength. Those around you will feel a sense of telepathy from you, because you’ll see the world for what it really is, while others are engrossed in their illusion and distraction. There is no reason or excuse that can validate not doing this, as there is no actual effort, or sacrifice. No matter what you do, you need to breathe. Follow the patterns above: you’ll do it better than the rest of the world. I’ll occasionally use an elevation mask if I’m seriously struggling with getting my breathing together.
